That she can only access her "power"-something that we learned from The Boys was selfishly hoisted onto Supes when they were children by selfish or unknowing parents-through an eating disorder-esque trigger that surely causes her great harm is tragic enough. This scene-which by the end of the episode gets called out publicly as something along the lines of what Liam often does by his classmates-is the beginning of what will be a season-long journey of self-acceptance for Emma. It's an awkward, ungratified position for Emma to find herself in, and we get a number of weird and funny perspective shots of a tiny Emma making her way among what appear to be a giant-sized dick and balls (but, really, are anything but not that there's anything wrong with that, of course, but don't be a jerk about it). This is where things get kind of weird! Clearly, Liam has Napoleon Complex of the Penis, as he desired for a woman to get as tiny as superheroically possible as his only way to feel adequate. But since some dude named Liam showed her attention, she decides why not, and does it. In order for Emma to shrink down, she needs to stick her fingers down her throat and vomit-and every time she does it, she gets smaller and smaller. But it doesn't take long before we realize that he's got something between an ulterior motive and a fetish: he wants Emma to shrink down to miniature size during sex.Įmma is apprehensive to do so, and we soon learn why her size isn't as easy to operate as Marvel's Ant-Man (who lets his suit do the heavy lifting) or even fellow The Boys universe shrinker Termite (who can do it with such ease that he literally blew a guy up from the inside). The boy, a dude named Liam (Robert Bazzocchi) who tossed her the above and beyond compliment of saying he knew her YouTube videos, comes over, and things immediately get hot and heavy between them. In the scene, Marie's roommate, Emma-who possesses the Ant-Man-like power to shrink down to miniature size, but only uses it to film poorly-received YouTube videos and aspires not to be a hero but an actor-invites a boy over to her empty dorm (Marie is out on the town with the popular older students). We enter Gen V with plenty of violence-Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair) has a particularly bloody origin story-and superhero lewdness, but the most memorably vulgar moment of the show's three-episode premiere comes in the back end of Episode 1, "God U." but they're going to make sure we look at a penis or two on the way to the point. Mainly, that's in terms of lewd, shocking moments-but moments that come nonetheless (most of the time, at least) with meaning and purpose behind them. GEN V MAY be a different show from Prime Video's main, flagship The Boys series, but it's clear from the very get-go that this college-set superhero satire spinoff is picking up right where we left off. The following story contains spoilers for the first episode of Gen V, titled "God U."
